Nomads and farmers not only used and still use their kilims as rugs on the floor, but also as tent or wall hangings, blankets, pillows or bags. Because kilims were constant companions in everyday life, the patterns, however naive they may seem, always carried a personal message and had meaning for the weavers and their families.\n\u003cbr\/\u003e\u003cbr\/\u003e\nIn Europe, \u003cb\u003e kilims\u003c\/b\u003e from Turkey, the Caucasus region, Iran, Afghanistan and the Turkmen cultural area are particularly well-known and popular. In fact, in all countries, in which rugs are knotted, also they are also hand-woven. This old Kilim is \u003cb\u003e more than 40 years old\u003c\/b\u003e and a true collector's item.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003e\u003cb\u003ePatterns\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp align=\"justify\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e The luxuriant \u003cb\u003eflower motifs\u003c\/b\u003e of this Kilim are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.\n\u003cbr\/\u003e\u003cbr\/\u003e  The edge of the rug is decorated with an \u003cb\u003eedging (border)\u003c\/b\u003e. The border forms a excellent contrast to the center.\n\u003cbr\/\u003e\u003cbr\/\u003e In the middle of the central field of this Kilim is the symmetrical center, also called \u003cb\u003emedallion\u003c\/b\u003e. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.\n\u003cbr\/\u003e\u003cbr\/\u003e The background of this Kilim is rusty red.  The border features black, dark red and blue gray. The black center combines the colors blue gray and purplec.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003e\u003cb\u003eCondition\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp align=\"justify\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eThis Kilim has a story. It was hand woven about \u003cb\u003e 1940\u003c\/b\u003e. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Kilim because we think it is as it is a special charm. If you would like, we will of course restore the rug further for you. We can restore almost any rug to an almost perfect condition. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch4\u003e\u003cb\u003eMaterial\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cp align=\"justify\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eKilims are \u003cb\u003e hand-woven\u003c\/b\u003e and are made of warp and weft threads only, i.e. they do not have a thick, upward pointing pile. Kilims have the same pattern on both sides and can, therefore, be used on both sides. The pattern is created by weaving colored weft threads into warp threads. For each new color a new thread must be used in each row. The thread ends are worked in as well.\n\u003cbr\/\u003e\u003cbr\/\u003e\nThe weft threads of this kilim rug are made of hand-spun sheep's wool dyed with vegetable dyes. To produce the yarn for the weaving of the rug, sheep are shorn and their wool cleaned, combed and finally spun. After spinning, the wool of the Kelim rugs is dyed with natural dyes through a complex process. Because of this traditional process, the pile of kilim rugs appears dry and slightly fuzzy.
