Place of origin

The Bakhtiaris ( also Bakhtiars) are an old, widely dispersed people, who live in the southwest of Iran. The collective name of their rugs is Bakhtiar or Bakhtiari, whereby the "i" corresponds to our preposition "of". Bakhtiari rugs, i.e. the rugs of the Bakhtiars, comprise numerous sub-types with different patterns. Despite their extensive color palette, Bakhtiari rugs resemble each other in their color compositions, the various techniques of workmanship and the characteristic style, which is always floral.

Natural colors, which despite their intensity have a pleasant effect and acquire a beautiful patina over time, are preferred in the production of Bakhtiari rugs. The most common colors are brown, for outlining, red, bottle green, yellow and white, as a brightener, which gives the rug a pleasant appearance. This old Bakhtiari is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Bakhtiari are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The embellished edging (border) forms a glorious contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.

The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Bakhtiari. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..

In the middle of the central field of this Bakhtiari is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.

The background of this Bakhtiari is dark blue. The colors light red and dark blue dominate the overall impression. The border features beige and dark red. The off white center combines the colors dark blue and old rose.

This Bakhtiari has had admirers before you. It was hand knotted about 1930. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Bakhtiari because we think it is as it is a special charm. If you would like, we will of course restore the rug further for you. We can restore almost any rug to an almost perfect condition.

The pile of this Bakhtiari has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Bakhtiari are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.

The colors of this carpet change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
