Place of origin
The Bakhtiaris ( also Bakhtiars) are an old, widely dispersed people, who live in the southwest of Iran. The collective name of their rugs is Bakhtiar or Bakhtiari, whereby the "i" corresponds to our preposition "of". Bakhtiari rugs, i.e. the rugs of the Bakhtiars, comprise numerous sub-types with different patterns. Despite their extensive color palette, Bakhtiari rugs resemble each other in their color compositions, the various techniques of workmanship and the characteristic style, which is always floral.
Natural colors, which despite their intensity have a pleasant effect and acquire a beautiful patina over time, are preferred in the production of Bakhtiari rugs. The most common colors are brown, for outlining, red, bottle green, yellow and white, as a brightener, which gives the rug a pleasant appearance. This old Bakhtiari is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Bakhtiari are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
The repeating elements in the center field of this Bakhtiari rug have no specific center (so-called repeating pattern). The repeating pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with repeating patterns are also called patterned.
The edge of this rug is decorated with a hint of border.
The background of this Bakhtiari is dark blue. The colors light red and blue gray dominate the overall impression. The border features light red and rusty red.
This Bakhtiari has a story. It was hand knotted about 1940. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
The pile of this Bakhtiari has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Bakhtiari are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
