Place of origin

The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded. This old Tabriz is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.

Patterns

The edge of the rug is decorated with an edging (border). The border forms a beautiful contrast to the center.

The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Tabriz. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Tabriz are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The repeating elements in the center field of this Tabriz rug have no specific center (so-called repeating pattern). The repeating pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with repeating patterns are also called patterned.

The background of this Tabriz is dark blue. The border features rusty red and yellow beige.

Condition

This Tabriz has a story. It was hand knotted about 1950. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Tabriz because we think it is as it is effect. If you would like, we will of course restore the rug further for you. We can restore almost any rug to an almost perfect condition.

Material

The pile of this Tabriz has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.

The colors of this carpet change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
