Place of origin
The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded. This old Tabriz is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.
The edge of the rug is decorated with an edging (border). The border forms a excellent contrast to the center.
The background of this Tabriz is off white. The border features gray beige and off white.
The pile of this Tabriz has been woven from so-called cork wool. Cork wool is a very fine thread, almost velvety to the touch. Cork wool is obtained from the neck, belly and inner sides of the sheep's legs and is of particularly high quality. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
