Place of origin
Contemporary aesthetics meets oriental tradition: we were inspired by the traditional pattern of Persian Nain rugs for the design of this Neo Nain rug.
Nain is one of the best known rug provenances (origin, source) of Iran. The city of Nain is located to the northwest of Isfahan and has a centuries-old knotting tradition. The pattern of Nain rugs with floral tendrils is unmistakable and in a way an archetype of classic Persian rugs.
We have modified traditional pattern templates and, in particular, completely rearranged the color scheme. The result is a fusion of traditional oriental rug design and modern European aesthetics. Through our Neo Nain rugs, we try to cater to the trends of European interior design and in doing so, we playfully go around the guidelines of traditional rug knotting.
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Neo Nain Loom are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
The embellished edging (border) forms a beautiful contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
The pattern, inspired by classical oriental embellishments, gives the impression that this hand-knotted rug has a long history. The pattern looks as if it has been washed out or faded and therefore almost abstract. In fact, this Neo Nain Loom is of course new and part of the latest generation of contemporary rug designs. It is a bridge between modern designs and interiors and classic oriental motifs. The pattern is subtle yet present.
Some areas of the design have a higher pile than other parts of this rug. The patterns of modern rugs tend to be simpler and more abstract. The play with different pile heights is new and has replaced more elaborate and bold patterns. As a result of the two-dimensional highlighting of the pattern, the rug does not look boring at all. This accentuation is extraordinary and has a unique effect.
The background of this Neo Nain Loom is olive green. The colors blue gray and olive green dominate the overall impression. The border is held in similar colors as the rest of the rug.
The pile of this Neo Nain Loom is made of high-quality wool and more durable cotton. The pile yarns were wrapped by hand around a backing fabric of cotton using an innovative process. This method is much less labour-intensive than traditional knotting, speeds up the production process and thus allows for lower prices. The quality and durability of hand-looped rugs is impressive in comparison to their price.
