Contemporary aesthetics meets oriental tradition: we were inspired by the traditional pattern of Persian Sarough rugs when designing this New Tehran rug.
br /> Sarough is one of the most famous rug knotting regions in Iran. Saroughs are famous for their floral Sultanabad designs. Their delicate tendrils seem to branch out endlessly and are only tamed by the surrounding border.

We have modified traditional pattern templates and, in particular, we have completely rearranged the color scheme. The result is a fusion of traditional oriental rug design and modern European aesthetics. We try to cater to the trends of European interior design with our New Tehran rugs and, in doing so, we playfully go around the guidelines of traditional rug knotting.

Patterns

The luxuriant flower motifs of this New Tehran are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The repeating elements in the center field of this New Tehran rug have no specific center (so-called repeating pattern). The repeating pattern has a calming but not boring effect. Rugs with repeating patterns are also called patterned.

The surface of this New Tehran has a flecked effect. The color changes and light-dark shades of the pile yarn run across the length of the rug, making the colors shimmer and making the rug impervious to dirt. Because of these so-called color jumps Abrash the rug appears more lively. The flecking is the result of the wool of this New Tehran being hand-spun. During dyeing, the natural dyes are absorbed differently.

In the middle of the central field of this New Tehran is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.

The background of this New Tehran is dark gray. The border features dark gray and old rose.

Material

The pile of this New Tehran is made of a durable mixture of wool and viscose. Viscose also acetate silk or rayon is generally obtained from the natural product of cellulose, in other words from the raw material, wood. In India the cellulose mass is obtained from bamboo. In an elaborate process, the pulpy cellulose is pulled into a continuous textile yarn. This is why viscose is also referred to as the continuous filament yarn. Because of the silky sheen of the yarn, viscose obtained from bamboo is also called "Bamboo Silk". The colloquially used designation "artificial silk" is not permitted under the German Textile Labelling Act TKG. The weft and warp threads of this New Tehran are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
