Place of origin

The city of Tabriz on the northern border of Persia has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups, due to its location at the crossing of numerous caravan routes. Although the city is located in eastern Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is closely related to the Turkish language. At the bazaars in Tabriz, handicrafts and especially rugs from the surrounding villages were and are traded.

Patterns

The luxuriant flower motifs of this Tabriz are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.

The edge of the rug is decorated with an edging (border). The border forms a glorious contrast to the center.

The recurring pattern (so-called repeating pattern) flatters the design of the room and does not take attention away from the furniture, the decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room.. In this Tabriz the repeating elements give way to the symmetrical medallion in the center of the panel.

The background of this Tabriz is old rose. The border features beige and old rose.

Material

The pile of this Tabriz has been hand-knotted from cork wool and silk. Cork wool is a particularly fine, almost velvety knotting yarn. Cork wool is taken from the neck, belly and the insides of the legs of the sheep and is of particularly high quality. The pattern of this Tabriz is highlighted with shiny pure silk, which is manually extracted from the cocoons of the silk moth. The silk elements create a shimmering contrast and let the colors, depending on the lighting, shine in different facets. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.

The colors of this carpet change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
