Origin and design

Qom is a relatively recent source of Persian carpets. The city of Qom (also spelled Gom, Ghoum, Goum) is located in central Iran, about 100 km south of the capital, Tehran. Since Qom lacked a long-standing carpet-weaving tradition, patterns were and still are adopted from other weaving regions. Over time, however, a distinct style has developed. Today, silk carpets from Qom are among the most famous and highest-quality carpets in the world. The field of Qom carpets is often light-colored and decorated with finely drawn medallion patterns or continuous boteh or vase motifs.
