Origin and design

This Kars carpet was woven by Caucasians living around the city of Kars. The city of Kars, with a population of nearly 90,000, lies in northeastern Anatolia, about 45 km west of the Armenian border and 65 km south of the Turkish-Georgian border, at an altitude of 1768 m.
