Origin and design
The city of Kashmar is located in eastern Persia, in the Khorasan province, and is the capital of the administrative district of the same name. It was originally called Turshis and was renamed Kashmar during the reign of Shah Reza. As a result, Kashmar carpets sometimes still appear on the market under their old name, Turshis. Until about twenty years ago, the Herati pattern was predominantly woven here, which was then mainly adopted from the nearby Moud and Birjand carpet-producing regions. Today, the so-called Sirchaki pattern predominates. The Sirchaki pattern depicts ancient artifacts, such as vases, weapons, jugs, bowls, etc., usually on a blue or beige background. The arrangement is almost exclusively symmetrical in four parts, with a central medallion, which is occasionally adorned with a small image. Everything is framed by a very pronounced main border. The medallions are sometimes asymmetrical and depict landscapes.More recently, however, patterned carpets and carpets with the Nain pattern in the provenance-typical beige-blue color combinations have also been knotted in Kashmar. These Kashmar Nains are recognizable by their high pile. Kashmar carpets have a rather coarse knot density, appear somewhat grainy, and the pile is relatively high.
Hinweis zu den Fotos
The colors of this rug change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
