Origin and design

The carpets from the city of Nain owe their distinctive patterns and color combinations primarily to the master weaver Hadj Fatollah Habibian Naiini. He limited himself to fewer than ten colors in his weaving, thus laying the foundation for the color composition of the still highly popular Nain carpets. The basic colors remain predominantly white or beige and blue, although Nain carpets in red, green, and yellow are becoming increasingly common. Floral patterns, their outlines accentuated with silk, are typical. Thanks to their understated elegance and reduction to a few color tones, Nain carpets also fit perfectly into modern interiors.

This carpet, with its typical Nain pattern, was woven in the Persian city of Kashmar. Located in eastern Persia in the Khorasan province, Kashmar is the capital of the Kashmar region. It was originally called Turshis and was renamed Kashmar during the reign of Shah Reza. Sometimes, Kashmar carpets are therefore sold under their old name, Turschis.
