Origin and design

Sanjan (also spelled Sandjan) is located in western Iran. The famous carpet-making provinces of Hamadan and Bijar lie in the immediate vicinity of Sanjan. The patterns of Sanjan carpets are not particularly distinctive and are often based on the typical patterns of Hamadan carpets.
