Origin and design

The city of Tabriz (also spelled Täbris or Tabriz), located on the northern border of Persia, has always been a melting pot of diverse ethnic and religious groups due to its position at the crossroads of numerous caravan routes. Although the city borders Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is related to Turkish. Handicrafts, and especially carpets from the surrounding villages, were and still are traded in the bazaars of Tabriz.
