Origin and design

The pattern of this hand-knotted Thuja rug features variations on the time-honored Tree of Life motif. The Thuja rugs are adorned with elements of the Tree of Life. We have developed two variations of the Thuja motif: In one, various Thuja motifs appear randomly scattered across the rug. In the other, individual tendrils and leaves are arranged in vertical, multicolored stripes, bordered by a monochrome border. Our Thuja rugs are designed to appeal to contemporary tastes: Harmonious color compositions of natural hues complement the variations of the traditional pattern. A characteristic feature is that the fringes—as with our Oxiana rugs—are gathered in small bundles and wrapped with multicolored threads.

The colors of this rug change depending on which side it is viewed from. It depends on whether the light falls on the line or against the line of the pile. We have therefore taken pictures of this rug from different perspectives.
