Origin and design

Yalameh carpets originate from the Isfahan weaving region in western Central Iran. Their characteristic feature is their vibrant and colorful nature. Typical color combinations include royal blue, deep red, and a subtle green. For nomadic carpets, the weave is very fine and the pile is very short.

Star or animal motifs are incorporated into the field, which is divided into precise geometric shapes—usually squares or diamonds. The so-called "se-hoze" motif is also frequently found, especially in larger Yalameh carpets. This basic pattern consists of three vertically arranged hexagonal medallions into which star and animal motifs are seemingly randomly scattered. "Se-hoze" translates roughly as "three ponds." The star and animal motifs are thus incorporated into the depiction of the three ponds like reflections.
