250 × 200 cm at a glance
- Takes a full seating group of sofa, armchairs and coffee table
- Placed crosswise under a double bed, it shows on three sides
- Too short in length for a dining table with chairs
- Hand-knotted one-of-a-kind pieces in Oriental, Kelim and vintage qualities
Where this size really works
In the living room, 250 × 200 cm is the size at which the seating no longer stands on the rug with its front legs alone, but completely. That calms the room noticeably, because no edge of furniture juts out past the rug. In the bedroom it lies crosswise under the bed; with a 180 cm bed, about 35 cm stays visible to the left, to the right and at the foot. For a dining table it is not enough — there the sensible range starts at 300 × 200 cm.
What to look for when buying
From this size on, the pattern becomes the real decision. A central medallion disappears under a coffee table, while a continuous allover pattern copes with furniture far better. Also check how much floor stays visible towards the wall: below 30 cm the rug looks like badly fitted carpet. Mark the dimensions out on the floor with masking tape before you buy — that beats any amount of imagining.

Common questions
With a sofa up to about 220 cm wide, yes — along with the coffee table and armchairs. With a modular sofa with a chaise longue the depth is no longer enough — then 300 × 250 cm is the right size.
Only with a very small, square table. A rectangular table with six chairs needs at least 300 × 200 cm.
From about 20 square metres. Below that, too little floor stays visible and the room looks smaller than it is.
