Where this size really works

In front of a standard door 90 cm wide, this size covers exactly the area where shoes are set down and jackets taken off. In front of a kitchen run, on the other hand, it is tight — if you stand there for any length of time, a runner is the better option. What to look for when buying

Small sizes take the heaviest wear per square metre. Firm wool qualities and Kelims handle that far better than soft, high pile. Patterned pieces with darker ground tones forgive marks in the entrance area, while plain light rugs show every shoe sole. If the rug lies on a smooth floor, an anti-slip underlay is not an accessory, it is a prerequisite.
