Place of origin
Kordi (also Kord or Kurdi) is a collective term for rugs from Iran that are hand knotted by Kurds. The Koliai and Khorasan rugs, if you will, are also Kordi rugs. Usually Kurdi rugs come from the Khorasan province. Only rarely do they come from the Turkmen-Afghan region.
Kurds make use of all classical provenances (origin, source) for the rug knotting. However, they do not blindly imitate traditional patterns, but put them into practice in their own way. Especially the colors often deviate strongly from original patterns. As a result, one encounters diverse designs among Kordi rugs, but mostly with a rather dark color scheme.
Patterns
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Kordi. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..
The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
In the pattern of this Kordi, the diamonds stand out in particular. Diamonds are a rhombus standing on a point, the four equal sides of which may be jagged, stitched or hooked. The diamond is one of the oldest basic forms in oriental rugs. It has a symbolic meaning in the Islamic world: it symbolizes the immortality of the soul. It is therefore very often found as a filler motif.
The background of this Kordi is rusty red. The border features dark blue and beige.
Condition
This Kordi has a story. It was hand knotted about 1970. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
Material
The pile of this Kordi has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The backing (weft and warp threads) of this Kordi is made of virgin wool.
