At approx. 120,000 knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, evident in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. At 509 × 107 cm, it makes a runner for the hallway and entrance area. It also looks good in a long corridor or on a gallery landing. Origin

Malayer is the second-largest city in the province of Hamadan in western Iran and is known for its rug-knotting workshops. Malayer lies between Hamadan and Khorramabad, 380 km south-west of Tehran. The city of Malayer as it stands today was founded in 1808 under the name Daulatabad, in order to bring the restless region along the Zagros mountains under the control of the Persian state.

This old Malayer is around 86 years old and a real collector's piece.

Material

The pile of this Old Malayer was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Old Malayer are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and supple, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Old Malayer. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 1940. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
