Qom in pure silk

There is only one rug like this one in beige: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of around 800k-900k knots per m² makes the demanding workmanship visible – right down to the finely worked details. At 250 × 194 cm it is in good hands as a living room rug. It shows to equally good effect under a dining table for four to six people. Colouring and texture give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no other rug shares.

Origin

Qom is a relatively young provenance for Persian rugs. The city of Qom (also Ghom, Gom, Ghoum, Goum) lies in central Iran, about 100 km south of the capital Tehran. As there was no old knotting tradition in Qom to build on, patterns were and still are adopted from other weaving regions. Over time, however, a style of its own has grown out of this. The silk rugs from Qom are today among the most famous and finest rugs in the world. The field of rugs from Qom often has a light ground decorated with finely drawn medallion patterns or all-over boteh or vase designs.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
