Old Heriz

This rug in rust red combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At approx. 160,000 knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 360 × 249 cm make it a large living room rug. Origin

Heriz (also spelled Heris) is an important place of origin for hand-knotted rugs. Heriz lies in the far west of Iran, on the border with Azerbaijan. Rugs from Heriz are famous for their beautiful geometric designs. Characteristic of Heriz rugs is the lustrous wool with its wonderful colouring.

This Old Heriz is around 76 years old and a true collector's piece.

Material

The pile of this Old Heriz was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Old Heriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.

Condition

This old Heriz has had admirers before you. It was knotted in around 1950. We have cleaned it thoroughly and lovingly restored it. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
