Where this size really works
With a table of 220 × 100 cm, 65 to 75 cm of rug is left all round — exactly the space a chair needs when pushed back. In an open-plan layout this format separates the living area from the dining area visually, without a wall being needed. The distance to the wall matters: below 40 cm the room feels tight, even though it is large.
What to look for when buying
Large rugs take very different wear in daily use: under the dining table chairs scuff across them, in the living area almost nothing happens. A densely knotted, fairly low quality is therefore the safer choice when both zones sit on the same rug. Do plan for the transport as well — depending on quality, a rug this size weighs 25 to 40 kilograms and cannot be laid out single-handedly.

Common questions
Up to about 220 × 100 cm, 60 to 70 cm is left on all sides for the chairs. For longer tables it is worth looking at 400 × 300 cm.
From about 35 square metres. What counts is not the floor area alone, but that at least 40 cm of floor stays visible towards the wall.
Because a rug of this size takes many months on the loom. Large pieces are therefore always single finds. What is here today may be sold next week.
