Even so, here you'll find some reduced and affordable rugs under €500
Under €500 you'll find genuine hand-knotted and hand-woven rugs with us – currently more than 2,000 pieces, with an average price of around €220. Small and medium formats are realistic here. From small accent rugs starting at 60 x 40 cm up to sizes such as 240 x 170 cm. Plus plenty of runners.
A really generous living-room rug at 200 x 300 cm isn't part of this range – for that you'll need from around €1,000.
This price range is the most honest way into real rug craftsmanship. What you'll find here is nothing machine-made: hand-woven Kelims and hand-knotted wool rugs, simply in smaller sizes, or from provenances that are knotted less elaborately, or in some cases pre-owned – genuinely vintage and sustainable.
Size is the lever that sets the price in this class. Half of our rugs under €500 come in at around one square metre, which corresponds to sizes such as 60 x 40 cm, 90 x 60 cm, or 120 x 80 cm and 150 x 100 cm.
The other half is spread across sizes of 150 x 100 cm, 180 x 120 cm, 200 x 150 cm and 240 x 170 cm. So the ceiling is at about 4 m² – individual pieces go up to 6 m², and beyond that this budget doesn't stretch. As a bedside rug, as an accent under the coffee table, in the hallway or in a child's room, this is exactly the right size range.
When it comes to material, here too it stays with what has worked for generations: pile of sheep's wool, warp and weft of cotton. You'll almost never find silk in this class, and rightly so – a genuine Silk Rugs at this price point would be a warning sign. The exceptions here are of course pre-owned rugs, which we always have cleaned, though not always fully restored. That's why they hold plenty of potential to be a real bargain – provided you like the look of a vintage rug. Knot densities are typically around 160,000 knots per m², which is perfectly sufficient for a small format and makes the rug robust enough for everyday areas.
Kelims are the most common type in this bracket, and there's a reason for that: they are woven rather than knotted, so they take less working time per square metre. In return they are flat, reversible and light – ideal for hallways, kitchens and anywhere a door swings over the rug. Sind Teppiche unter 500 Euro echte handgeknüpfte Teppiche?
Ja. Jedes Stück in dieser Auswahl ist von Hand geknüpft oder gewebt, kein Maschinenteppich. Der niedrige Preis kommt von der Größe und der Knüpfdichte, nicht von der Machart – ein Teppich mit einem Quadratmeter braucht schlicht ein Viertel der Arbeitszeit eines Teppichs mit vier.
Welche Größen gibt es unter 500 Euro?
Der typische Bereich liegt zwischen 0,5 und 1,6 m². Häufige Formate sind 90 x 60 cm, 60 x 40 cm, 120 x 80 cm und 150 x 100 cm, dazu über 100 Läufer für Flur und Küche. Auch in 240 x 170 cm gibt es eine gute Auswahl. Allgemein gibt es Formate bis rund 4 m², das ist aber die Ausnahme.
Bekomme ich einen Wohnzimmerteppich in 250 x 300 cm unter 500 Euro?
Nein. In dieser Preisklasse gibt es kein Stück in 250 x 300 cm. Handgeknüpfte Teppiche in dieser Größe beginnen bei uns bei rund 1.000 Euro; unter 1.500 Euro findest du derzeit knapp 300 Teppiche ab 6 m².
Warum ist ein handgeknüpfter Teppich unter 500 Euro so günstig – stimmt die Qualität?
Der Preis eines geknüpften Teppichs ergibt sich fast vollständig aus Fläche mal Knüpfdichte mal Materialgüte. Ein kleines Format mit solider Wollqualität und mittlerer Knotenzahl landet rechnerisch in dieser Klasse, ohne dass an der Handarbeit gespart wird. Was du hier nicht bekommst, sind sehr feine Knüpfungen, reine Seidenanteile und große Formate.
Kelim oder geknüpfter Teppich – was ist in diesem Budget die bessere Wahl?
Für Flure, Küchen und unter Türen ist der Kelim die bessere Wahl: flach, wendbar, leicht zu bewegen. Für Wohnräume, in denen der Teppich weich sein soll, nimm ein geknüpftes Stück mit Flor, etwa einen Kazak oder Hamadan. Beides findest du in dieser Preisklasse.
Wie lange hält ein Teppich aus dieser Preisklasse?
Handgeknüpfte Wollteppiche halten bei normaler Wohnraumnutzung Jahrzehnte, unabhängig vom Kaufpreis. Entscheidend sind Pflege und Standort: regelmäßig absaugen, alle paar Monate drehen, und in stark begangenen Bereichen eine Antirutschmatte unterlegen.
