Old Heriz

Craftsmanship and timeless elegance meet in this rug in light red. At approx. 120,000 knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 400 × 340 cm make it a rug for generously sized living spaces. It comes into its own just as well beneath a large dining table. Colouring and texture give any room a homely, exclusive note – a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years.

Origin

Heriz (also spelled Heris) is an important place of origin for hand-knotted rugs. Heriz lies in the far west of Iran, on the border with Azerbaijan. Rugs from Heriz are famous for their beautiful geometric designs. Characteristic of Heriz rugs is the lustrous wool with its wonderful colouring.

This Old Heriz is around 86 years old and a true collector's piece.

Material

The pile of this Old Heriz was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Old Heriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Old Heriz. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted in around 1940. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The pile is worn in places. The fringes could do with a repair. There is sadly a tear, though it can be closed up, at least roughly, with little effort. We have not restored this Old Heriz, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course gladly restore the rug for you. Either way, this Old Heriz will bring you pleasure for decades to come.
