Meschad
Craftsmanship and timeless elegance come together in this rug in wine red and dark blue. With a knot density of approx. 250,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 384 × 300 cm, it suits generously sized living spaces. It also looks good under a large dining table. Colouring and texture give any room a homely, exclusive note – a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years.

Origin
In the eastern part of Persia lies the region of Khorasan (land of the rising sun), with Meschad (also Maschad, Meschhed or Meshad) as its capital. Originally the Timurid capital of Herat, which lies in today's Afghanistan, was also part of this region. The typical patterns of rugs from Meschad go back to the 19th and 20th centuries and are made up of small-scale elements that seem to repeat endlessly, sometimes arranged around medallions.
Material
The pile of this Meschad was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural oil content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound. The weft and warp threads of this Meschad are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
Condition
This Meschad has a story behind it. It was knotted around 1980. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The pile is worn in places. The fringes could do with a repair. We have not restored this Meschad, because we feel it has a special charm just as it is. If you would prefer otherwise, we will of course gladly restore the rug for you. Either way, this Meschad will give you pleasure for decades to come.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
