Tabriz
This rug with its multicoloured design was made this way only once: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of approx. 360,000 knots per m² makes the demanding workmanship visible – right down to the fine execution of the details. At 300 × 200 cm it is in good hands as a living-room rug. It also cuts a fine figure in the bedroom beneath the bed. Colouring and texture lend the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no second rug shares.

Origin
Standing on Persia's northern border at the crossroads of countless caravan routes, the city of Tabriz (also written Tabris or Täbriz) has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups. Although the city lies on the border with Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is related to Turkish. The bazaars of Tabriz have traded in craftwork for centuries, and above all in rugs from the surrounding villages.
Material
The pile of this Tabriz was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound. The weft and warp threads of this Tabriz are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly suitable for a hard-wearing foundation weave.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Tabriz. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted around 1995. It has been cleaned thoroughly and is in good but unrestored condition. The fringes could do with a repair. The edges are damaged in places. There are a few stains to note. We have not restored this Tabriz, because we feel it has a special charm just as it is. If that is what you would like, we are of course happy to restore the rug for you. Either way, this Tabriz will give you pleasure for decades to come.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
