Tabriz

There is only one rug like this in light red and light brown: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. A knot density of around 160,000 knots per m² makes the elaborate workmanship visible – right down to the finely worked details. At 73 × 58 cm it is well placed as a small accent rug. It also cuts a fine figure in the entrance area or the bathroom. Colouring and texture give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character that no other rug shares.

Origin

Standing on Persia's northern border at the crossroads of countless caravan routes, the city of Tabriz (also written Tabris or Täbriz) has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups. Although the city lies on the border with Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is related to Turkish. The bazaars of Tabriz have traded in craftwork for centuries, and above all in rugs from the surrounding villages.

Material

The pile of this Tabriz was made from cotton. The cotton plant is grown in most rug-producing countries and is therefore very popular for rug making.

The weft threads of this Tabriz are made of wool. Cotton was used for the warp threads.
