Mamlouk

This rug in brown exists in this form only once: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. The knot density of approx. 250k-300k knots per m² makes the elaborate workmanship visible – right down to the fine execution of the details. At 202 × 76 cm, it is in good hands as a hallway runner. It shows to equally good effect in the kitchen in front of the worktop. Colouring and texture give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no second rug shares.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
