Mamlouk

Craftsmanship and timeless elegance come together in this rug in gold. With approx. 250k-300k knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly painstaking, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 237 × 175 cm make it a living room rug. It comes into its own just as well in the bedroom beneath the bed. Colouring and texture give any room a homely, exclusive note – a one-of-a-kind piece that will last for years.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
