Mamlouk

This one-of-a-kind piece in brown unites traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At approx. 250k-300k knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, as you can see in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. Its 240 × 175 cm make it a living room rug. It also looks good under a dining table for four to six people. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.
