The right rug size for the dining room

Bon Happy-Feet!

The Kitchen

Top Chef

The kitchen is where you spend time together with your family and friends. That is why this room should always feel cosy and harmonious. Rugs and runners are a helpful piece of furnishing that bring comfort and style to your kitchen. They bring the room to life and add colour and texture. They also give plain, dull floors a visual lift. But because the kitchen always sees a lot of dirt, make sure your rug is not only beautiful but practical as well. A kitchen rug should keep your feet warm in the morning, but it should also be easy to care for. You should also make sure your rug is large enough to hold the whole table and the maximum number of chairs. Bear in mind that for most standard chairs you need to allow around 60 cm around the table, so everyone can sit comfortably without the chairs wobbling.

Option 1

Let the shape of your tabletop inspire the shape of your rug. When the two shapes match, the result is a balanced overall look. Round tables pair beautifully with round rugs, and square tables with square rugs. To make sure you get the right rug size, measure your dining table, add 60 cm or more on each side and mark out the area directly on the floor with newspaper. If the marked area sits well with the rest of your furniture, that is the size to consider.

Option 2

A round rug works even if your table is square. It creates a contrast with the straight lines and angular shapes in your room, making the space feel more interesting and lively.

Option 3

Depending on the shape and layout of your kitchen, runners can also fit in beautifully. A long, narrow rug, for example, is perfect between the kitchen units and the table. It gives you a warm, pleasant feel underfoot while you cook. Leave at least 15 cm of space along the sides of the rug so that it doesn't look cramped.
