Herati
This Herati is a genuine one-of-a-kind piece. At 249 × 82 cm it is ideal as a runner or hallway rug and brings a characterful accent to narrow living spaces as well. More than simply an exceptionally hard-wearing wool rug: natural material and individual workmanship give this one-of-a-kind piece a character of its own. The knot density is given as 130000. Under the number 15-63302 we offer precisely the rug shown in the photographs.

Origin
The name Herati goes back to Herat, a city in north-western Afghanistan. The Herati pattern is a very traditional repeat pattern found in hand-knotted rugs. This age-old pattern ensemble is made up of several individual elements. At the heart of a rhombus set on its point sits a flower (commonly read as a daisy), framed by four acanthus leaves twining around it. Stylised lotus blossoms crown the upper and lower points, a hint at a connection with China. The points at the sides run out into peonies. This blossom, also known as the farmer's rose, holds the place of queen of flowers in China and travelled west along the Silk Road.
All four sides of the ensemble are flanked by crescent-shaped, lance-like leaves, which are also read as fish (Persian “Mahi”). This is where the Persian name Mahi-to-hos comes from, which translates as “fish in the pond”.
Material
The pile of this Herati was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
