This rug in turquoise exists only once in this form: it brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. At approx. 250k-300k knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, as you can see in the precise drawing of the design and the finely worked details. Its 199 × 149 cm make it a rug for the bedroom or study. It also cuts a fine figure in a seating area. Colouring and texture give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no other rug shares.

Origin

Mamlouk rugs (occasionally spelled Mamluk) were knotted in Egypt above all in the 15th century and are found almost exclusively in museums today. This Mamlouk rug is a new take on the classic pattern, which is defined by a wealth of different geometric shapes that give the rug a kaleidoscopic effect.

Material

The pile of this Mamlouk was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing live sheep. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a whole range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
