Tabriz
This one-of-a-kind piece in light blue and beige brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. At approx. 640,000 knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly elaborate, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 310 × 245 cm make it a large living-room rug. It also looks good in an open-plan living and dining area. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic structure give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
Standing on Persia's northern border at the crossroads of countless caravan routes, the city of Tabriz (also written Tabris or Täbriz) has always been a melting pot of different ethnic and religious groups. Although the city lies on the border with Azerbaijan, the dialect spoken in Tabriz is related to Turkish. The bazaars of Tabriz have traded in craftwork for centuries, and above all in rugs from the surrounding villages.
Material
The pile of this Tabriz was hand-knotted from kork wool and silk. Kork wool – also spelled kurk – is an especially fine-threaded knotting yarn with an almost velvety feel. It is taken from the neck, the belly and the inner legs of the sheep and is of particularly high quality. The pattern of this Tabriz is picked out in lustrous pure silk, which is obtained by hand from the cocoons of the silkworm. The silk elements create a shimmering contrast and make the colours glow in different shades, depending on how the light falls. In this Tabriz even the foundation is made of pure silk. Because the weft and warp threads are of a thin yet hard-wearing material, an especially fine knotting – and with it an especially fine pattern – becomes possible.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Tabriz. It has had owners before you who valued it and lived with it. It was knotted around 2010. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. As a result it is – despite its age – in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
