Persian Rugs
Until 1934 Iran was officially known as Persia. During the first great Persian dynasty of the Achemanids, from about 550 to 330 BC, the empire stretched from Ethiopia to India, from the Bosporus to the Oxus River in northeastern Iran.
At various times in history, this country built a bridge between the East and the West. The caravans on the Silk Road passing through Persia not only distributed new ideas, but also rugs, fabrics and spices. Iran is the birthplace of rug-making and continues to be the capital of this art.
