Albanian Meymeh
This one-of-a-kind piece in dark brown combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 360,000 knots per m², the painstaking workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the fine execution of the details. At 366 × 270 cm it works beautifully as a large living-room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, welcoming atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a piece of furnishing – it is a piece of traditional textile art with a character of its own and lasting value.

Origin
The town of Meymeh lies in central Iran, some 100 km north of Isfahan. Typical of rugs from Meymeh is a pattern of small, symmetrical, geometricised orchids surrounding a medallion that is likewise geometric. The middle of the medallion, in turn, is graced by a kind of floral cross. The border is usually adorned with a geometricised Herati pattern. This design is known as "Djangali" – Persian for coming from the jungle. Meymeh rugs are knotted by hand using the Persian knot.
Material
The pile of this Albanian Meymeh was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural grease content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally proofed against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Albanian Meymeh are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly suitable for a hard-wearing foundation.
Condition
This Albanian Meymeh has had admirers before you. It was knotted around 28. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The pile is worn in places. The edges are damaged in parts. The rug has a few smaller stains. We have not restored this Albanian Meymeh, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would prefer otherwise, we will of course be happy to restore the rug for you. Either way, this Albanian Meymeh will bring you pleasure for decades to come.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
