Origin

Gharadjeh (also Garadje) lies in the province of Azerbaijan. The pattern of Gharadjeh rugs is geometric and richly branching. The field is adorned with an octagonal central medallion on a red ground. The rest of the field is filled with stylised blossoms and leaves. On Gharadjeh rugs the border is always kept in dark blue.

This Old Gharadjeh is around 52 years old and a true collector's piece.

Material

The pile of this Old Gharadjeh was made from cotton. The cotton plant is grown in most rug-producing countries and is therefore very popular for rug making.

The weft threads of this Old Gharadjeh are made of wool. Cotton was used for the warp threads.

Condition

This Old Gharadjeh has a story to tell. It was knotted around 52. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
