Old Kerman Lavar
There is only one rug like this in beige and dusky pink: it combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of around 360,000 knots per m², the painstaking workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the pattern and the fine detailing. At 463 × 325 cm it suits generously sized living spaces. It also cuts a fine figure in a reception area. Colouring and texture give the room a homely atmosphere – with a character no other rug shares.

Origin
The city of Kerman (also Kirman) lies in the south-east of Persia at around 2,000 metres above sea level. Kerman sits on the old caravan routes and looks back on centuries of tradition in both craft and trade. Kerman is mentioned in Marco Polo's travel account Il Milione. Rugs from Kerman are marked by fine patterns, flowing lines and soft gradations of colour. The classic patterns of the 19th century are often figurative. Hunting scenes and animals were depicted, as were mythological figures and historical personalities. The broad palette of Kerman rugs is enriched above all by its many shades of red, traditionally obtained from the cochineal insect. This rug comes from the village of Levar near Kerman, yet it shows the pattern typical of Kerman rugs.
This old Kerman Lavar is around 66 years old and a true collector's piece.
Material
The pile of this old Kerman Lavar was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin content of the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally proofed against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Old Kerman Lavar are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and pliable, which makes it ideal for a hard-wearing foundation weave.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Old Kerman Lavar. It had owners before you who valued it and used it. The rug has a few smaller stains. It was knotted around 1960. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. That is why – despite its age – it is in very good condition.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
