Old Keshan
This one-of-a-kind piece in light blue and beige unites traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. At approx. 360,000 knots per m² the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. Its 211 × 132 cm make it a rug for the bedroom or study. It also cuts a fine figure in a child's room or a dressing room. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
The central Persian city of Keshan (also written Kashan or Keschan) lies between the mountain slopes of the Zagros range and the Persian desert regions. Thanks to its climate and the caravans that crossed the country, it was – at least until the Safavids moved their seat of government to Isfahan – a flourishing metropolis, known above all for its fabric and rug production. To this day the city is shaped by the elegance and splendour of that era. Keshan rugs are artful textiles made in an age-old tradition. In Keshan, production traditionally took place in the weavers' own homes. The pile is typically knotted from extremely soft wool, which makes it particularly dense and compact. This old Keshan is around 76 years old and a real collector's piece.
Material
The pile of this Old Keshan was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: the wool's natural lanolin content means the surface repels droplets of water, giving it a natural resistance to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Old Keshan are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it especially well suited to a hard-wearing foundation weave.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Old Keshan. It has had owners before you who valued it and put it to use. It was knotted around 1950 and has given faithful service ever since. The fringes could do with a repair. All in all it is nevertheless in good condition and can give pleasure for decades to come. We have not restored this Old Keshan, because we feel it has a special presence exactly as it is. If you would rather we did, we will of course gladly restore the rug for you.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
