Old Kordi
This rug in dark blue combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At around 60,000 knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 400 × 110 cm make it a living-room rug. As a one-of-a-kind piece it brings individual character into the room and holds its value far beyond short-lived trends.

Origin
Kordi (also Kord or Kurdi) is a collective term for rugs from Iran that are hand-knotted by Kurds. Koliai and Khorasan rugs are therefore, if you like, Kordi rugs too. As a rule, Kurdi rugs come from the Khorasan province. Less often they also come from the Turkmen-Afghan region. In their rug knotting, the Kurds draw on every one of the classic provenances (source, origin). They don't copy the traditional patterns slavishly, though, but reinterpret them in their own distinctive way. The colouring in particular often departs considerably from the original patterns. That's why you'll find the most varied designs among Kordi rugs, though usually in a rather dark palette.
This old Kordi is around 106 years old and a true collector's piece.
Material
The pile of this old Kordi was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound. The foundation (weft and warp threads) of this old Kordi is made of new wool.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Old Kordi. It has had owners before you who treasured and used it. It was knotted around 106. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The pile has become a little thinner over the years. The edges and fringes of the rug are damaged in places and could do with a repair. We have not restored this Old Kordi, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course gladly restore the rug for you. Either way, this Old Kordi will give you pleasure for decades to come.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
