Origin
The pattern of this Oriental rug takes its cue from classic Persian rug designs. This rug was knotted in Turkey. This old Turkish Oriental rug is around 90 years old and a real collector's piece.
Pattern
The lush floral motifs of this Turkish Oriental rug are elegant and full of variety. The graceful plant symbols, depicting blossoms, leaves and branches, are artfully intertwined.
The decorated surround (border) forms a wonderful contrast to the centre and shapes the transition at the edge of the rug.
At the heart of the central field of this Turkish Oriental rug lies the symmetrical centre, also known as the medallion. The design of the field is subordinate to the medallion, so that the medallion seems to float on the field.
The background of this Turkish Oriental rug is dark brown. The border is worked in curry and beige. In the dark red centre, beige and curry are combined.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Turkish Oriental rug. It has had owners before you who valued and used it. It was hand-knotted around 1930. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The pile has grown thinner over the years. The edges and fringes of the rug are damaged in places and could do with a repair. We have not restored this Turkish Oriental rug, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you would like us to, we will of course be happy to restore the rug for you. Either way, this Turkish Oriental rug will give you pleasure for decades to come.
Material
The pile of this Turkish Oriental rug was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural oil content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Turkish Oriental rug are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it especially well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
