Turkmen rug
This one-of-a-kind piece in beige and burgundy brings together traditional craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 280,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship shows above all in the precise drawing of the design and the finely worked details. At 190 × 128 cm it is well suited as a rug for the bedroom or study. It also looks very much at home in a small living room. The harmonious colouring and the distinctive texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. A rug of this quality is far more than a furnishing item – it is a piece of traditional textile art with individual character and lasting value.

Origin
This rug was knotted by members of the Turkmen tribes. The Turkmen are known above all for their Bukhara rugs. Bukhara (sometimes also written Bochara) is an oasis city in Uzbekistan that lies on the former Silk Road. Although no rugs were actually knotted in Bukhara itself, the city gave its name to many Oriental rugs, because they were traditionally exported to the West from Bukhara. These rugs, however, were knotted by Turkmen tribes such as the Yomoudh or the Tekke.
Material
The pile of this Turkmen rug was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is thus naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.The foundation (weft and warp threads) of this Turkmen rug is made of new wool.
Condition
You are not the first to take a liking to this Turkmen rug. It had owners before you who valued and used it. It was knotted in around 1980. We have cleaned it thoroughly and lovingly restored it. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
