Place of origin
Varamin (also Veramin) is located a good 50 km southeast of Iran's capital city of Tehran, in northern Iran, and was an important administrative center at the time of the Mongol rule. The proximity to the capital city of Tehran with its higher wage has resulted in Veramin rugs being hardly knotted at all. It is assumed that the craft of knotting was established there at about the same time as in Ghom, i.e. at the beginning of the 20th century, and that the manufactories were once set up by Tehran investors. This theory is supported in particular by the color compositions of early Varamins, which are reminiscent of those of Ghom rugs. This old Varamin is more than 40 years old and a true collector's item.
Patterns
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Varamin. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room..
The embellished edging (border) forms a glorious contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Varamin are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
The recurring pattern (so-called repeating pattern) flatters the design of the room and does not take attention away from the furniture, the decoration and architectural elements. It blends in fantastically with any surroundings and subtly complements the interior design of a room.. In this Varamin the repeating elements give way to the symmetrical medallion in the center of the panel.
The background of this Varamin is dark blue. The border features rusty red, yellow and light blue. The rusty red center combines the colors yellow and dark green.

Material
The pile of this Varamin has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Varamin are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
