Antique Kordi
This rug in dark red combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At around 160,000 knots per m², the workmanship is accordingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing of the pattern and the finely worked details. Its 250 × 144 cm make it a living room rug. As a one-of-a-kind piece, it brings individual character to a room and keeps its value far beyond short-lived trends.

Origin
Kordi (also Kord or Kurdi) is a collective term for rugs from Iran that are hand-knotted by Kurds. Koliai and Khorasan rugs are therefore, if you like, Kordi rugs too. As a rule, Kurdi rugs come from the Khorasan province. Less often they also come from the Turkmen-Afghan region. In their rug knotting, the Kurds draw on every one of the classic provenances (source, origin). They don't copy the traditional patterns slavishly, though, but reinterpret them in their own distinctive way. The colouring in particular often departs considerably from the original patterns. That's why you'll find the most varied designs among Kordi rugs, though usually in a rather dark palette.
This antique Kordi is a collector's item. It is around 106 years old, and that alone makes it a truly special piece. Antique rugs such as this Antique Kordi are as sought after as ever and fetch top prices at renowned auction houses.
Material
The pile of this Antique Kordi was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive qualities: thanks to the wool's natural lanolin content, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and absorbs sound. The foundation (weft and warp threads) of this Antique Kordi is made of new wool.
Condition
You're not the first to take a liking to this Antique Kordi. It has had owners before you who valued it and lived with it. It was knotted around 106. It has been thoroughly cleaned and is in good but unrestored condition. The edges and fringes need repair on both sides. We haven't restored this Antique Kordi, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you'd prefer otherwise, we're of course happy to restore it for you. Either way, this Antique Kordi will give you pleasure for decades to come.
A note on the photos
Child labour? No thanks.
Child labour? No thanks. Children belong in school, not at a knotting frame or a loom. For us it therefore goes without saying that we only offer rugs made under fair conditions and without child labour.
We attach particular importance to humane working conditions and tolerate no child labour at any of our producers. Thank you for helping us to ensure fair conditions.
That is why we support the initiative Care & Fair against child labour in the rug trade.
