Origin

The pattern of this Oriental rug takes its cue from classic Persian rug designs. This rug was knotted in Russia. This antique Russian Oriental rug is a collector's piece. It is around 110 years old and a truly special piece for that reason alone. Antique rugs like this Russian Oriental rug are as sought after as ever and fetch top prices at renowned auction houses.

Pattern

The lavish floral motifs of this Russian Oriental rug are elegant and full of variety. The graceful vegetal symbols, depicting blossoms, leaves and branches, are artfully intertwined.

The edge of the rug is framed by a decorative border. The border forms a beautiful contrast with the centre.

The repeating elements of this Russian Oriental rug have no specific centre. The recurring repeat pattern feels calming without ever becoming dull. Rugs with a repeat pattern are also described as all-over patterned.

The overall impression is dominated by blue-grey and beige. The border is worked in beige and dark brown.

Condition

This Russian Oriental rug has a story. It was hand-knotted around 1910 and has given faithful service ever since. The pile has grown a little thinner over the years. All in all it is still in good condition and can bring joy for decades to come. We have not restored this Russian Oriental rug, because we feel it has a special presence just as it is. If you'd like us to, we'll of course gladly restore the rug for you.

Material

The pile of this Russian Oriental rug was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is therefore naturally protected against dirt. Wool also provides excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound. The weft and warp threads of this Russian Oriental rug are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.
