Origin and design

The pattern of this Bakhtiari field-pattern rug is based on the design elements of classic Bakhtiari rugs. However, this rug was not woven in Iran, but in Pakistan.

The Bakhtiari (also spelled Bachtiars) are an ancient, widespread people living in southwestern Iran. Their rugs are collectively known as Bakhtiar or Bakhtiari, where the "i" corresponds to the preposition "of." Bakhtiari rugs—that is, the rugs of the Bakhtiari people—encompass numerous sub-provenances with various pattern types.

In our Bakhtiari field-pattern rugs, the classic pattern elements are arranged in fields that appear to float on the contrasting, monochrome background. As with classic Bakhtiari rugs, natural dyes and hand-spun wool were used in their production, giving them a pleasantly understated appearance despite their intensity. In terms of craftsmanship and style, they resemble their classic counterparts.
