Place of origin
This rug has been knotted in Bidjar, in the province of Kermanshah in the northwest of Iran. Bijar rugs are among the most solid and the highest quality oriental rugs. The majority of the population in Bijar are Kurds.
The Kurdish Bijars use a particularly thick weft yarn, which is extremely hard. The result is a plank-hard, extremely durable rug. Younger Bidjars in particular are decorated with the typical Herati pattern, which is also called the fish pattern.
Patterns
The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Bijar. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room.
The luxuriant flower motifs of this Bijar are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined.
The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug.
In the middle of the central field of this Bijar is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field.
The background of this Bijar is dark blue. The colors rusty red and dark blue dominate the overall impression. The border features beige and rusty red.
Condition
This Bijar has had admirers before you. It was hand knotted about 1970. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it lovingly. Therefore it is in very good condition despite its age.
Material
The pile of this Bijar has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Bijar are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
