This rug in dusky pink salmon, apricot combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. At around 240,000 knots per m², the workmanship is correspondingly demanding, as you can see in the precise drawing and the finely worked details. Its 180 × 128 cm make it a small living room rug. Origin

Buchara (sometimes also written Bochara) is an oasis city in Uzbekistan on the former Silk Road. Although hardly any rugs were ever knotted in Buchara itself, the city gave its name to many Oriental rugs, because they were exported to the West from there. The rugs themselves were knotted by various Turkmen tribes, above all in the Caucasus, Persia and Afghanistan.

Buchara rugs are among the finest and best-loved rugs of Central Asia. That is also why the pattern has been copied in many countries, especially in Pakistan. These copies are sold as so-called Pakistan-Buchara.

Material

The pile of this Buchara was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by gently shearing sheep. New wool is a renewable, natural raw material with a range of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is thus naturally protected against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Buchara are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and pliable, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.

Condition

You are not the first to take a liking to this Bukhara. It had owners before you who valued and used it. The edges are damaged in parts. The fringes could do with a repair. It was knotted around 28. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.
