This one-of-a-kind piece in dusky pink, salmon and apricot combines traditional craftsmanship with timeless elegance. With a knot density of approx. 240,000 knots per m², the elaborate workmanship is especially evident in the precise drawing of the pattern and the fine execution of the details. At 94 × 59 cm, it is well suited as a small living room rug. The harmonious colouring and the characteristic texture give any room an exclusive, homely atmosphere. Origin

Djosan rugs are hand-knotted near the town of Djosan (often also written Jozan or Josan) in western Iran. The motifs of Jozan or Djosan rugs are inspired by those of Sarough rugs. They show delicate vase motifs, scrolling flowers or medallions with or without corner motifs. Jozan rugs are also known for their very strong base colours in red and blue and for their very good quality. Like Sarough rugs, Jozan rugs are knotted with a robust double knot. That, along with the high-quality wool used for the knotting, gives these rugs a very sturdy feel.

Material

The pile of this Djosan was hand-knotted from high-quality new wool. New wool is obtained by shearing sheep gently. It is a renewable, natural raw material with a number of impressive qualities: thanks to the natural lanolin in the wool, the surface repels droplets of water and is naturally proofed against dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, helps regulate the indoor climate and dampens sound.

The weft and warp threads of this Djosan are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and elastic, which makes it particularly well suited to a hard-wearing foundation.

Condition

This Djosan has had admirers before you. The rug has a hole 3 cm in diameter. It was knotted around 46. We have cleaned it thoroughly and restored it with care. Despite its age, it is therefore in very good condition.

A note on the photos

The colours of this rug change depending on which side you look at it from. It all depends on whether the light falls with the nap of the pile or against it. That is why we have photographed the rug from several angles.
